technology and oil

I think that the president is misguided in his belief that technology will help us to be better stewards of the environment. The fact of the matter is that there is only one way to stop global warming and protect the environment, and that is to drastically cut our consumption of fossil fuels. Though the president claims to be aiming for a twenty percent reduction in gasoline comsumption in ten years, that is a mere token of what should be done. Technology will only help us deal with issues like global warming if we also change our consumption habits. From an economic standpoint, technology is considered as anything that allows for higher efficiency with the same input. However, when considering saving the environment, technology that increases efficiency is not enough. The worlds growing population is a serious issue and time is running out. Considering that point, I think that it is misleading for the president to point to new technology as a way to help us be stewards of the environment. As I see it, the real issue is getting people to use less fossil fuels. For Bush to tell the nation that technology will help us be better stewards of the environment is misleading. We are not decent stewards until we change our lifestyle.
